“E.T.” is a song by American singer-songwriter Katy Perry released from her third studio album ‘Teenage Dream.’  The song was the album’s fourth single, released on February 16, 2011. The single version features vocals by American rapper Kanye West, who also appears in its Floria Sigismondi-directed music video. The song is an electronic ballad with lyrics that speaks of “falling in love with a foreigner” by using extraterrestrial metaphors. “E.T.” has received mixed criticism from music critics, though the song was widely noted for its darker and more mature theme, in contrast to Perry’s conventional works. The single is slowly moving up the chart in the United States, Canada and is currently at no.10 on the Billboard Digital Songs.

“Monster” is an alternative rock song by American rock band Paramore, served as the second single from the ‘Transformers: Dark of the Moon’ soundtrack. The song was first released on June 7, 2011 for digital download. The song debuted on Canada Top 40 charts at no.25.  “Monster” also debuted at no.36 on the Billboard Hot 100 and at no.16 on the Billboard Digital Songs in the United States.

“For the First Time” is a song by Irish indie rock band The Script, released as the lead single from the band’s second studio album ‘Science & Faith.’ According to Danny O’Donoghue: “The song ‘For the First Time’ was about a time when we got back after touring around the world.” It reached no.4 on the US Billboard Adult Pop Songs Chart and no.23 on the Billboard Hot 100. The song has been certified Gold in the U.S. according to the RIAA, with 500,000 successful downloads. This is their third song that has hit both of these charts.

“Mean” is a song recorded by American singer-songwriter Taylor Swift, taken from her third studio album, ‘Speak Now.’ The song, solely written by Swift, contains heavy elements of fiddles and banjos, with critics saying that it was the most country song on Speak Now. According to her, she wrote the song to get back at her critics who constantly question her songs as well as her ability to sing. “Mean”  garnered mixed to positive reviews from critics for its lyrical detail and profound country sound. It was commercially successful in the Canada and United States, debuting at no.10 on the Canadian Hot 100 and no.11 on the Billboard Hot 100. “Mean” also became Swift’s 13th consecutive single to reach top 10 on Hot Country Songs when it jumped from no.12 to no.9 on the week ending May 14, 2011.

“Good Life” a song from OneRepublic’s second studio album ‘Waking Up,’ released as the fourth single. The song has a repeated driving beat on the drums with the strumming of an acoustic guitar and a high-sung chorus. “The real hook is the post hook – it’s what comes after it. We have this REALLY super simple whistle. I hadn’t heard a whistle in a song in forever and that’s all I kept hearing on the song so I just whistled this melody into the mic and it really is the hook – it’s the catchiest part of the song,” Ryan Tedder was quoted as saying about the song. The song is featured on the advertisements for the film Eat Pray Love, in the trailer of One Day, in the film Easy A,^[3] and also in the Cougar Town^[4] episode “The Same Old You”, and in the Rookie Blue episode “Fresh Paint.”
